How to Experience Joy in Your Seven Key Relationships
This blog was inspired by the teachings of Dr. Paul Jenkins, a Positive Psychologist and author of Pathological Positivity.
His work at Live on Purpose Central explores the power of perspective and the seven foundational relationships that influence our happiness and fulfillment. Dr. Jenkins’ insights remind us that joy isn’t something we chase—it’s something we create by nurturing the relationships that matter most.
You can feel it when life’s out of balance.
You’re running hard—doing all the things—but inside, something feels off.
You might be managing the chores, the family, the farm, the business… but still wondering, why do I feel so disconnected?
Here’s the truth:
It’s not because you’re doing too little or caring too much.
It’s because one (or more) of your seven key relationships has fallen out of harmony.
At the root of every thriving life—every purpose-driven, peaceful, joy-filled woman—are her relationships.
Not just with people, but with her Creator, her self, her family, her community, and even her things.
Dr. Paul Jenkins, a positive psychologist and author of Pathological Positivity, describes these as the seven key relationships that determine our success, happiness, and personal fulfillment.
Most people focus on one or two and neglect the rest—that’s where imbalance and burnout begin.
But when you learn to align and nurture all seven?
Your life starts to flow again. ✨
You move from striving to thriving.
The Seven Key Relationships — when aligned, they create the balance and fulfillment we crave.
🌼 The Seven Key Relationships:
Your Creator: Your sense of faith, purpose, and values.
Your moral compass—the anchor that keeps you steady through change.Yourself: The foundation of it all.
Self-respect and self-compassion shape how you show up in every other relationship.Your Spouse or Partner: A space for teamwork, trust, and shared dreams.
Your Children: The sacred responsibility to guide, nurture, and empower.
Your Extended Family: Roots of belonging, stories, and legacy.
Other People: Friendships, colleagues, community—the ripple of how you serve and connect.
Your Things: A relationship of stewardship—letting what you own enhance your life, not control it.
🌿 Reflection:
Think of these seven as roots feeding the same tree.
If one root dries up, the whole tree suffers.
But when each is nourished—faith, family, self, purpose, and even your relationship with possessions—life begins to flourish again.
This series is your invitation to explore each of these relationships with curiosity and courage.
Because you were never meant to live exhausted, resentful, or disconnected.
You were created for balance and fulfillment.
